Dear Mrs Orgill, blessed are you for one of the few Citizens who really care about people with compassion. My name is Arie Scheepers, currently staying in Aberdeen str 13 in Woodstock, (since last year August) in one of 6 cottages with about 36 pensioners, Men and Women wich are managed by the Haven group. I read an Email I received that you mentioned a can of worms that needs to be opened. Well, myself and two other gents have tried to complain by Government authorities about our problem but with no interest in helping us at all about the financial and mental abuse we have to put up with as far as the unrealistic high rent of R1150 pm is with only R830 pm left for toiletries, food and clothing. "Inclusive" in the rent is a "Funeral Policy" by "Doves" worth "R16.000" at a R100 pm of wich they have no proof of such. None of us have singed any Policies towards that statement. If for instance we cannot pay the full rent, we are threatened to be evicted and treated like kids wich is mental and dignity abuse at worst. It appears that some palms higher up are oiled well to not really investigate the exploiting of pensioners. I have downloaded the Policy on Older Persons and I am sorry to say that it does'nt apply to us in Aberdeen str at all. We are taken advantage of by not only the Haven but other "Care workers" for their own gain in a big way. The motto of the Haven claiming that "No adult should live on the streets" is just a screen they use to cover for their greed. Big money to be made in the merchandise of Homeless and Pensioners. Where exactly did all the Millions go including the R16Mil they received on Mandela Day last year? It were even broadcasted on TV as well. It would be appreciated if someday, sometime we could get together to start opening the can of worms to show our fellow South Africans what really is happening to their hard earned money under the false presumption that they are "Helping the poor".
